BUTTERFLY LIFE CYCLE
While studying the life cycle of the butterfly, our students participated in many activities. In addition to some of the activities displayed, our classroom watched real caterpillars change into butterflies, and let them fly away in the yard.  During this theme the children became familiar with the life cycle of a butterfly and learned related vocabulary.

Exploring Color A Recurring Theme

When learning about colors, we like to incorporate many different experiences. The children learn the primary colors, and have many opportunities to practice mixing the primary colors to create new colors. Children love exploring bright and interesting things, so colors are always a fun time to offer sensory experiences.

BIRDS

When studying birds the children explored bird seed, felt feathers and were even able to enjoy real birds. We raised eight chicks that the children played with daily. The kids really loved this, and were able to have hands on experience that helped to cement the information that they had discovered about birds during circle time and small group.

Dinosaurs

This is one of the childrens' favorite topics. We explore many ideas including, fossils, habitats, extinction, carnivores, herbivores, reptiles, paleontology, and volcanoes. The children had fun making tar pits, digging in the sandbox for fossils and erupting baking soda/vinegar volcanoes. The children really enjoyed the measuring activity we worked on, in which we discovered that a T-Rex is as long as our whole building!
